Swing over to the Edisto Beach Shag Festival

It’s about time to bust a move. The Edisto Beach Shag Festival is coming up on Labor Day weekend and we think it’s the perfect send-off to summer. Boogie on down to Bay Creek Park from Fri., Sept. 2-Sun., Sept. 4 to join the celebration.

Look forward to live music by Band of Oz, Edisto Gumbo, The Entertainers, and The Shag Doctorz. For all dates, there will be food, drinks, and crafts, plus performances by DJ Pat Patterson and special guest “Elvis.”

👞 Fri., Sept. 2 from 3-11 p.m.

  • Shag lesson at 3 p.m.
  • Band of Oz at 7 p.m.

👞 Sat., Sept. 3 from 12-11 p.m.

  • Edisto Gumbo from 1-5 p.m.
  • Non-professional Shag Competition
  • Junior Shaggers Exhibition
  • The Entertainers at 7 p.m.

👞 Sun., Sept. 4 from 12-8 p.m.

  • The Shag Doctorz at 4 p.m.

How to do the shag: Watch this video to learn the basic moves of South Carolina’s state dance. Now, turn on some beach music, recruit a partner + count out the steps: One-and-two, three-and-four, five-six. Try it out before you head to the festival.

Put on your dancing shoes + snag passes to the event, which are $15 for daily admission and $40 for a weekend pass.
