Did you know the most expensive home sale on the peninsula — aka downtown Charleston — happened last week? The historic home at 10 Legare St. sold on June 30 for a record-breaking $13.5 million. Side note: How many times have you said, “It’s pronounced ‘luh-gree’”?

The 8,596-sqft. abode was purchased along with the 3,000-sqft. carriage house located behind it. The 4-story home was built circa 1857 and has 5 beds and 5½ baths along with a pool. The carriage house has 3 beds and 4½ baths.

The unlisted property was purchased by a Chicago couple, represented by Debbie Fisher of Handsome Properties, after a one-time showing. The home was owned by the estate of local couple the Morses, represented by Melinda Laurens and her son Henry Laurens of Carriage Properties.

The previous top spot for priciest downtown home sale belonged to the “condo castle” penthouse at the People’s Building, which was purchased for $12 million.

10 Legare St. sold nearly a week after the largest home sale in the Charleston region. Check out details + photos of the $20.5 million Vanderhorst Mansion sale here.
