Get ready to bring the sting. The South Carolina Stingrays — a professional minor league ice hockey team based in North Charleston — began their season on Oct. 23 with a win against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits. As one of the most successful franchises in ECHL history, the Rays have never had a losing season.

We’ve rounded up some of the top players to spot as you cheer on the three-time Kelly Cup Champions during the 2021-2022 season.

Beginning his tenth season with the Rays, #28 Andrew Cherniwchan has kicked off his third consecutive season as team captain.

Keep an eye out for alternate caption #23 Ben Holmstrom. This center forward has been named captain on four teams before joining the Rays this season.

#9 Justin Florek skated into the role as alternate captain for the Rays following his time on teams such as the Milwaukee Admirals + Boston Bruins.

Alternate captain #7 Macoy Erkamps joined the team last season and helped the Rays earn the title as the best defensive team in the league.

Two of the league’s top players, goalie Ryan Bernard, #37, and defenseman Jake Massie, #34, are representing the red and blue after playing for the Greenville Swamp Rabbits last season.

The SC Stingrays have appeared in 27 of the last 28 playoff games + are tied for the record for the most Kelly Cup Championships. The team is sure to impress this year, with seven returning players for the 2021 season.
