Happy one year anniversary, Charleston. We can’t believe that it’s been a full twelve months since we launched and celebrated with you all at Edmund’s Oast Brewing Co. Oh, the memories…

🎉 Here’s a quick snapshot of how we’ve grown in the past year:

🎉 Here are some of our favorite conversations we’ve had with you this year:

  • Presidential picks for visiting Charleston | When reading up on George Washington’s trip to Charleston in 1791, I noticed quite a few of the stops he made are still around today– in some way, shape, or form. Inspired, I used Washington’s travel diary to compile a modern-day itinerary for visiting Charleston based on “his” recommendations. –Multimedia Producer Jen Ashley
  • Haint blue paint to keep the spirits at bay | Charleston receives countless compliments on its unique architectural style and pastel-colored buildings. But until I lived here, I didn’t know those influences originated from the island of Barbados. Connecting with the Barbados and Carolinas Legacy Foundation, I researched five of the most symbolic staples of Charleston that actually came from the Barbados culture. Multimedia Producer Justine Mejak
  • What do you meme there’s a hurricane? | From covering the available tax breaks via opportunity zones, to traveling the 4,848 miles to Spoleto, to finding where to shuck, slurp, + savor the perfect mollusk, being able to bring some respite during the anxiety-filled time of Hurricane Florence via a collection of the most memorable memes allowed me to connect with the community through knee-slapping laughter– which we all know is the best medicine. –Engagement Editor Nicole Trimble

Now, we have one tiny favor to ask of you, our beloved readers. CHStoday has been nominated for two awards through Charleston City Paper’s Best of Charleston 2019: Best Website + Best Twitter Account. Our first year in the books would feel even sweeter with a win. Click here to vote for us. 🗳
