DYK? March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month — shining a light on the fact that colorectal cancer is the second deadliest type of cancer in the US. According to the American Cancer Society, an estimated 52,980 Americans will die from the disease in 2021 alone.

When detected early, the survival rate of colorectal cancer is about 90% — so it’s crucial to get screened regularly. Doctors recommend beginning screenings around age 50, or earlier if you have a family history of colon cancer. It’s an easy doctor’s visit to put off, but being proactive can be a literal lifesaver.

Palmetto Primary Care Physicians, Division of Gastroenterology provides colorectal screenings to Lowcountry patients. Their offices are located in the Nexton community (5500 Front St., Suite 260) + in Moncks Corner (730 Stoney Landing Rd.). Their team of gastroenterology experts also treats general digestive issues + liver disease. The group is currently accepting new patients — book your appointment here.
