More than 14 years ago, world-renowned pianist Emanuel Ax performed pro-bono with the Charleston Symphony to help the organization through a difficult time.
Now, the Symphony is thrilled to welcome him back March 13-14 as it enters a new era of audience growth.
Ax is a Grammy-winning, Sony Classical exclusive artist, longtime collaborator of Yo-Yo Ma and Leonidas Kavakos, and was just named Musical America Artist of the Year.
He’s also received some of classical music’s highest honors, including:
- The Avery Fisher Prize
- Fellowships in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences
- Honorary doctorates from Yale, Columbia, and the New England Conservatory
The program features two works by Johannes Brahms, highlighting themes of growth and reflection:
- Piano Concerto No. 1: written at age 25, showcasing youthful intensity and virtuosity
- Symphony No. 3: composed at age 50, celebrated for its lyricism and emotional depth
Trust us: this is a concert you just have to experience live.
