The Michelin Guide is expanding into the southern region of the US by launching the Michelin Guide American South. This new edition will go beyond major metropolitan areas to uncover the region’s rich food culture, highlighting culinary excellence across six southern states, including South Carolina.

How it works

Restaurants selected for the guide must meet Michelin’s historical methodology, based on five universal criteria to ensure fairness across all destinations:

  • Quality of ingredients
  • Harmony of flavors
  • Mastery of cooking techniques
  • The voice and personality of the chef are reflected in the cuisine
  • Consistency between each visit and throughout the menu (each restaurant is inspected several times a year)

Michelin inspectors operate anonymously and evaluate restaurants independently. Fun fact: They’re already out and about, making reservations and searching for culinary gems.

Charleston is undeniably a food lover’s paradise. If you had the power to choose, which local restaurant would you select for the Michelin Guide American South?
