The 51-acre park will be located on Old Towne Road in West Ashley. It was once an estate known as Ashem Farm, home to Charleston preservationists Ashby Farrow, Emily Ravenel Farrow, and St. Andrews Riding Academy. Mrs. Farrow made moves with the Historic Charleston Foundation to protect the property from future development.

In 2011, the land was entrusted to the Lowcountry Land Trust, with the understanding that the Charleston County Park + Recreation Commission would turn the land into a public park.

Phase 1 of park construction:

  • Interior and exterior renovations of one of the former buildings
  • Roof replacement of existing stable buildings
  • Construction of a new restroom and pavilion building
  • New maintenance building
  • Boardwalks
  • Fencing
  • Gates
  • Paved vehicular entry + parking areas
  • Pedestrian entrance, concrete sidewalks, and paths
  • Landscaping, lighting + signage
  • A small amphitheater
  • A playground

Park officials say renovations are well underway, and the upgraded park will open in late 2025 or early 2026.
