7 nearby farms where you can pick your own produce

With farmers markets bustling every weekend + most weekdays, there’s a good chance your produce drawer is already filled with fresh, organic S.C.-grown ingredients.

But have you ever considered getting more personal with your food? Farm-to-table is one thing, but farm to your hand to your table is another. Enter: u-pick farms.

U-pick farms, otherwise known as Pick Your Own or P.Y.O. farms, are as straightforward as they sound: you just drive to a participating farm, grab an empty basket, + handpick blossoming fruits + veggies right from the fields.

The crops available for the taking change depending on the time of year (when the produce is in season). Currently, here in the Lowcountry, blueberries, blackberries, + peaches are ripe + ready to be plucked from the earth.

Visiting a u-pick farm isn’t just a fun way to spend an afternoon– you’ll also save a few bucks picking the produce yourself versus if you were to buy it pre-packaged. Plus, imagine how much better that homemade blueberry pie will taste knowing you personally labored over each + every berry?
