From classic films to newer releases, we’ve rounded up 7 movies and TV shows filmed in and around the Lowcountry that are perfect for the spooky nights leading up to Halloween.

Halloween | Starting off with the most recent major movie to be the talk of the town — this installment of the series was filmed entirely in the Charleston area. It even took the top spot for best opening ever for the series.

The New Daughter | The Lowcountry plays a big part in this movie. The main character — played by Kevin Costner — moves to rural SC with his 2 kids in the film only to discover a burial mound in the backyard that entices his daughter.

Swamp Thing | Swamp Thing was filmed in the Charleston area + according to “Wes Craven: The Art of Horror,” the swamp scenes were filmed at Cypress Gardens and Magnolia Plantation. You may recognize the name Wes Craven because he is also behind the box office hits “Nightmare on Elm Street” and “Scream.”

South of Hell | This supernatural thriller set + filmed in South Carolina, South of Hell follows a demon-hunter-for-hire. There are 8 episodes of this spooky series ready to binge-watch.

The Strangers | Filmed just 2 hours north of Charleston in Florence County, this movie stars Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman + was loosely based on the Manson family murders.

Last Dance | This movie was filmed in Ridgeland + Beaufort and follows Cindy Liggett — a convicted murderer, fighting the death penalty. She becomes friends with her lawyer, who tries to save her from death row.

The Haunted Mansion | If you’re looking for a family-friendly classic — Disney’s The Haunted Mansion was filmed in Savannah + in Beaufort and follows Eddie Murphy’s character as his family gets trapped in a haunted mansion.
