Southern Living readers name Charleston the best city in the South

Southern Living’s “The South’s Best 2025" list celebrates Charleston and the Lowcountry’s top destinations, from hotels to must-visit restaurants.

Southern Living has released its annual “The South’s Best 2025" list, which showcases its readers’ favorite destinations and experiences. Are we surprised that the Holy City was recognized multiple times? Keep reading for a highlight of Charleston’s well-deserved spots in various categories.

For the ninth year in a row, readers voted Charleston the No. 1 Southern city.

Southern Living added, “Charleston’s blend of old and new means that there’s something for everyone here: architecture, restaurants galore, African American history, art galleries, shopping, and more.”
